1. Know your car

This way you would get to know your car better and in cases of maintenance or repair needs, you will be an active participant in getting your car fixed.

When you go to a service center, the first thing you need to do is to make it clear that you are just in there for a consultation. Ask if they charge for consultations and fee estimates if you do not let them fix your car. Get all the estimates on services and parts in writing. They should be able to provide you a list of their quotes. If you think that they are over estimating the damage or that they seem reluctant to talk about the damage in detail, leave and get another opinion.
5. Know your rights
Finally, if you find out that you have been duped, or if you seem to be going back and forth the service centers for more and more repairs after they first rendered service, refer to your consumer rights.
