Saving Gas for your Family Vacation
Summer is here! It’s one of my favorite seasons. I love to travel, I love the beach and I love the tan you get after. Every year I save up and try to go somewhere different. My family has this tradition where we take two weeks vacation together. It’s great.
This year my family and I went to the beach. My mother complained because every year it just seems to get more expensive. The higher fuel gets, the higher plane fare gets. Everything is just so much more expensive these days. Makes me wish I married a millionaire. But then, if I did, he wouldn’t be a millionaire for a very long time with the way gas is going.
“We could drive to the beach.” I said.
“It’ll cost more.” She replied.
If you’re planning to go out of town this summer or even if you’re planning a family get together, there are lots of cost saving ways to help you get that vacation. You can’t let high gas prices bring your great vacation down! We’ve come up with a few ways to help you have a lot of fun and save some money!
Here are a few suggestions for you and your family:
- Stay in your state! Find a great place to go and experience your state! Websites like Destination 360 (http://www.destination360.com/north-america/us/) can give you great ideas on how to maximize that family vacation. Go on a tour of the state you live in! If you have young children, it’s a great way to educate them as well.
- Another great way to save some cash is to look for packages and tours that give you a great deal for your money! Check out your local travel agency to find great deals both in the US and outside. (Caribbean, anyone? Anyone?)
- Go out of the country! The dollar may be weak here but it’s still going strong outside of the US. Great (and cheap) places to visit include Thailand, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Experience foreign flavor and learn a few things about other cultures! It’ll be a great experience for you and your family.
- Do your research. Check out where gas is cheapest wherever your going. Prices may vary state to state. A little research goes a long way. Check out Google Maps.
- Make sure your car is well-maintained for that road trip! It’ll maximize gas mileage and prevent any accidents from occurring.
- If you have your heart set on a long drive, why not invest in a gas card to help manage your fuel expenses? It’s a great way for you to cut down on cash expenses and gives you a bit of leeway while you’re taking that trip. It’s a great way to earn money while you spend it since most gas cards offer a cash back rate of up to 12%. You can even earn airplane miles and travel discounts for next year’s vacation!
- Not wanting to spend too much on your credit? Why not invest in a prepaid gas card or gift card that you can use for gas expenses?
Trying to save doesn’t necessarily mean that you can cut out all the fun that you can have this summer! With a little planning and some help from this site, you can make this year’s vacation one that your family will remember forever! Don’t forget that camera!
