Ethanol is derived from plant starch turned into sugar, a process that involves fermentation and distillation. And in the United States, it is referred as grain alcohol because it is derived from corn. Other sources of this type of ethanol are sugar beets, sugar cane, barley, wheat, and vegetable compost. With the introduction of ethanol as an alternative fuel source for vehicles, there have bee rising hopes that the vehicle industry will see an end in the gas price hikes and the increasing concern for environmental damage car emissions bring. However, it is unfortunately untrue and most of us do not even realize it. For one, ethanol production will not lower gas prices; it is just one way of decreasing the dependence we have on the valuable oil OPEC controls.
